Fell running

Fell running is an increasingly  popular sport on the Island. There are several clubs and the Manx Fell Runners Club is one of the biggest. Every year events such as the Millenium Way Relay Race and the Mountain Race are held. Races are usually held each month throughout the year with the Winter Hill League taking place between October and December. However, there have been grave concerns expressed by fell runners that damage to the green lanes is making it increasingly difficult to use them, and routes are now planned that do not use these tracks. As you can imagine, running along a track with ruts 1 foot deep or more, separated by ridges only a few inches wide, does not make for safe running, and twisted or broken ankles will result from trying to do so.

This was the final race of the Manx Fell Running League and is named after a popular fell runner who passed away all too young. The run starts and finishes at the Coulson family farm at Glen Roy. Its a beautiful part of the Island made all the better by the perfect September weather. Most of the shots were taken close to the TT course.
